Shale gas is one of the non-conventional resources which deposits in shale rock deep underground and thought to be difficult to recover commercially until 1990s. However in the background of the technology innovation in upstream sector of oil industry in recent years shale gas development has been advanced in the United States and its production in the U.S. has skyrocketed from virtually nothing in 2000 to 20 percent of the U.S. natural gas supply in 2010.
Shale gas development is changing delicately not only the interest among the existing gas supply countries but also a relation with the consuming countries. Following points such as the possible change in international LNG supply and demand balance due to large abandonment of a U.S. LNG import plan increase of the options for European gas importing countries and the fall of the political power of Russia the possibility of China energy resources policy change and decrease of oil and gas dependency on Middle East oil can be pointed out from geopolitical point of view.
